The public sector: This sector covers about 50% of the population and it is financed through taxes, offering free clinical care for hospital inpatients and outpatients.
Social Plans: They are funded and managed by trade unions. In Argentina there are over 300 Obras Sociales (Social Plans). Employers and employees have to pay a fixed fee to cover the cost of medical care and medicines. The difference between the fixed fee and the actual cost is paid by the patient.
Private sector: This sector covers around 5% of the population. In this sector patient are bound to pay the total cost of their medical care. However the quality, the service and the facilities are much better.
