Temporary visas I for Exchange Students may be granted for a maximum of 1 year to individuals participating in an Exchange Students Program (like those promoted by AFS, Rotary, ICBEU). This visa cannot be extended.
All Candidates for a Temporary Visa I must present the following documents:
1. A passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended date of entry in Brazil;
2. One Visa Application Form, completely filled out, dated and signed by the applicant;
3. 2 photographs, passport size, colour, front view, no head cover, off-white plain background, taken within the last 6 months;
4. A detailed letter from the sponsoring institution, stating the purpose of the trip. This document/letter should state the nature of the activity to be performed, duration and location of the engagement (we need the full names and addresses of the persons who will be responsible for the student in Brazil – the “hosting family” contact information in Brazil;
5. Proof of financial means to support yourself in Brazil (we accept a notarized letter from the parents or a letter from the sponsoring institution assuming financial responsibility for the student during his/her permanence in Brazil);
6. Proof of residence in the jurisdiction of the Consulate for at least 1 year;
7. A certified copy of the appropriate registration of the sponsoring institution with the Brazilian competent authorities (Ata de Fundação and CNPJ Card);
8. For applicants over 18 years of age, a non-criminal record statement, obtained at Police Department of their place of residence;
9. For applicants less than 18 years of age travelling alone, a copy of the birth certificate and a notarized letter of authorization signed by both parents are required. There is a R$20.00 consular fee per legalization of document;
10. Proof of health insurance coverage in Brazil for the length of the trip.
NOTE: Upon arrival in Brazil, bearers of a Temporary Visa I must register with the Brazilian Federal Police Department within 30 days from date of arrival.
