European Union Citizens and other special countries
- Iceland is a part of the Schengen and European Economic Area and all citizens of EU/EEA countries can travel without visa to Iceland. You may stay and work for 3 months without a permit; however you can stay up to 6 months if you are seeking a job.
However it is recommended to register your domicile at once and register for an ID no. to be entitled to all public service like hospitals, schools and more. Staying beyond 3/6 months without registering a domicile and ID no. will result in you being deported.
All forms must be delivered in person with all required documents to either Registers Iceland or the nearest Municipality Office (Only in Icelandic, select your region on the map and it will display the address) or Police station. - If you intend to stay less than 3-6 months but work in Iceland you must:
- Fill out form A-262 on arrival in Iceland or fill it out before leaving and deliver it in person upon arriving in Iceland
Necessary documents for A-262 form:- Contract of Employment or Employer's confirmation A-265
- Valid passport or other valid travel document
- Certificate of health insurance (E-104)
- Certificate of Marital status ( If it applies )
- In case of self-employment or other, requirements can be found in form A-262
You must also register a change of address between Iceland and your country via form A-255 Your employer must apply for an ID no. for you on form A-263 (Icelandic) / A-264 (English)
All documents must be in English or one of the Scandinavian languages, if they are not they must be translated by an accredited interpreter. - If you intend to stay longer than 3-6 months but work in Iceland you must:
- Fill out form A-262 on arrival in Iceland or fill it out before leaving and deliver it in person upon arriving in Iceland
Necessary documents for A-262 form:- Contract of Employment or Employer's confirmation A-265
- Valid passport or other valid travel document
- Certificate of health insurance (E-104)
- Certificate of Marital status ( If it applies )
- In case of self-employment or other, requirements can be found in form A-262
- Register your legal domicile within 7 days of arrival, or as soon as you meet the necessary requirements. One week after signing a employment contract, but you must not exceed 6 months without doing this.
Your employer must apply for an ID no. for you on form A-263 (Icelandic) / A-264 (English)
