Italian Education System
In Italy, the Ministry of Education, University and Research regulats education in different ways by legal form (public schools, equal schools, private schools). The Regions, however, regulates professional training, including professional schools. The school obligation begins at 5-6 years old and ends to 16 years old, although the schools end up to 18-19 years old.
The Italian educational system is structured in three cycles of education:
- Primary Education: Primary School, that last 5 years, and the First Degree of Secondary School, that last 3 years.
- Secondary Education, that last 5 years, divided into three types of institutions: Senior High School, Technical High School and Professional High School.
- Higher education, including University and specialized training. These instruction cycles are accompanied by the Infant School (3 years), which are a no obligatory pre-school institution.
