Temporary Visas I are meant for non-Brazilian experts and authorities in particular fields of knowledge travelling to Brazil to make presentations at meetings, seminars or to engage in teaching, training, research and other specialized activities. This kind of visa can also apply to graduate or post-graduate students to pursue academic work in Brazil.
All Candidates for a Temporary Visa I must present the following documents:
1. A passport (please make sure that your passport is valid at least 6 months past the date of arrival);
2. 1 Visa Application Form, duly filled out, dated and signed;
3. 2 photographs, passport size, colour, front view, no head cover, off-white plain background, taken within the last 6 months;
4. Letter of invitation from the Brazilian sponsoring institution: – As applicable for activities under an international cooperation program signed by the Brazilian Government; – As applicable for programs of international organizations approved by the Brazilian Government; – As applicable for grant programs sponsored by the “Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico – CNPq” and/or CAPES, FINEP or other state foundation operating in the research area.
5. Copy of the government decree issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology and published on the government gazette (Diário Oficial da União): – As applicable for activities of scientific and technological cooperation;
6. A non-criminal record statement, issued by the Police Department of the applicant’s city of residence;
Applicants whose stay exceeds 90 days will be required to present proof that they hold a research grant for the duration of their stay.
NOTE: Bearers of a Temporary Visa I must register with the Brazilian Federal Police Department within 30 days from the date of arrival in Brazil. Bearers of visas must enter Brazil no later than 90 days from the date of issuance of the visa.
