Tourist Visa

A Tourist Visa (VITUR) is for:

- Recreational or leisure activities such as sightseeing and cultural tours;
- Visiting friends or relatives;
- Participation as an attendee or speaker, not paid in Brazil in scientific or scholar conferences and seminars (for business related conferences and other events);
- Participation in artistic or amateur sport competitions, whenever no monetary prize or paid admission is involved.

Length of stay in Brazil

- First granted period: up to 90 days;
- Extensions* (once in Brazil only): up to a further 90 days, making up a maximum of 6 months in any 12 month period.  At least 2 weeks before expiration of the first granted period, tourists may apply for a single extension of up to an additional 90 days, to be granted at the discretion of the Brazilian Immigration Authority. Those intending to extend their stay should apply for this extension at the Federal Police Department (DPMAF), in the capital of the state where you are residing, at least 2 weeks prior to the expiration of the current visa. Please note that extensions are not valid for multiple entries.

* Nationals of France: stay of up to 90 days (not extendable) per period of 180 days, from first entry.
** Venezuelan passport holders: stay for a period not exceeding 60 days.

Paid or unpaid employment of tourists in Brazil is strictly prohibited. An Embarkation/ Disembarkation card, provided to all visitors by the Brazilian Immigration authorities (DPMAF), must be filled in and signed appropriately and submitted to immigration upon arrival and when leaving Brazil.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

1. Applicant’s passport, valid for no less than 6 months, with at least two blank pages;
2. Return tickets (entering and leaving Brazil) and proof of means of support during the applicant’s stay in Brazil. Recent bank or credit card statements, or latest pay slip, are accepted as proof. The applicant must have at his disposal approximately R$270.00 per day. For applicants participating in conferences, seminars, artistic or sports events, the invitation letter from the organizers. Nationals of countries who require prior approval from the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations must provide, apart from the documents above, proof of income and hotel reservation, or contact in Brazil (name, address, and telephone number);
3. Proof of regular immigration status, if applicable, must be presented;
4. For minors (under 18 years) original and copy of the “long-form” birth certificate and copies of the identification page(s) of the parents passports;
5. Visa Application Form (1 per applicant) must be filled:

- Fill in the form.
- Click “SEND” to receive your processing number and receipt.
- Print the receipt.
- Attach 1 passport-size photograph.
- Sign the receipt. For minors (under 18 years), the receipt must be signed by both parents. The application form completed (filled-out) on-line is valid for 1 month only; if you apply after that period it will be necessary to complete another form.

6. For children aged between 3 months and 6 years, proof of vaccination against polio is compulsory (vaccination booklet from local clinic or letter from GP).

When travelling to Brazil on tourism, citizens of the following countries are exempted from a visa:

IMPORTANT

All visa applications should be instructed personally by the interested in the Consulate/Embassy of Brazil in the area of your residence. A proof of residence should be presented. Requests from foreign who don't reside legally in the country of origin are not accepted.
