Work Visa

A Permanent Work Visa (VIPER) is for:

- Foreign citizens appointed, under a contract, for managerial or administrative positions in Brazil must have this type of visa.

The procedure of applying for this visa has to be initiated in Brazil, by the prospective employer, who will submit a contract of work between the applicant and themselves, to the Brazilian Ministry of Labour and Employment (MTE) for approval. This approval takes approximately 3 months.  Only after receiving this approval can the visa be issued.

Applicants must lodge their application in person.

Within 30 days of arrival in Brazil, bearers of these types of visas must register with the Brazilian Immigration authorities (The Federal Police Department-DPMAF) and submit a copy of the visa application form, provided to them by this Consulate upon collection of the visa. The form will be stapled to a page of the passport to avoid it being misplaced.

An Embarkation/Disembarkation card, provided to all foreign nationals entering the country by the Brazilian Immigration authorities (DPMAF), must be filled in and signed appropriately and submitted to immigration upon arrival.

Required documents:

1. Applicant must fill out the online application form;
2. Applicant (or an authorized third party) must submit to the Consulate:

- the online application receipt page (“Recibo de Entrega de Requerimento”)
- a valid passport – original – with the expiration date at least 6 months after the intended date of arrival in Brazil, and with at least 2 remaining blank pages;
- proof of residency of the past 12 months;
- a non-criminal record certificate issued by the Police Department of the applicant’s city or county of residence, dated within 3 months prior to its presentation to the Consulate;
- 2 passport-type photographs, in colour or black and white, front view, no glasses, no head cover (except in religious cases), off-white plain background;

3. The International Immunization Certificate against yellow fever will only be required from international travellers coming from countries which pose a risk of international dissemination;
4. Applicants travelling to Brazil to provide services or technical assistance, including volunteer work, to charitable or religious entities, without a work contract or employment relationship with an entity/organization operating in Brazil  must  submit the following additional documents:

- proof of health insurance valid in Brazil;
- a letter of invitation, preferably in Portuguese, from the Brazilian organization/entity informing:
- the type of volunteer work, where it will be performed and for how long;
- that the Brazilian entity/organization assumes full responsibility for all maintenance expenses associated with applicant’s stay in Brazil  as well as his/her repatriation to the country of origin.

IMPORTANT

All visa applications should be instructed personally by the interested in the Consulate/Embassy of Brazil in the area of your residence. A proof of residence should be presented. Requests from foreign who don't reside legally in the country of origin are not accepted.
