The public health system is administered by FONASA (National Health Fund). The insurance is based on a scheme of distribution.
It is financed by the 7% of the income of the insured and resources from the state. The benefits are the same for all members, regardless the amount of the premium paid and the family size. The people who lack in resources receive also health care through FONASA.
Contributors quoting to FONASA can choose between two types of health care: institutional mode (closed care) and free choice (open care). In the first, the contributors receive benefits in hospitals or primary care centers. In the second, the contributors receive benefits from private providers attached to this form.
